We have been actively involved in MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) and the development of wholesale mobile network economics since 2002. During this time, members of our team have helped create some of the most successful and innovative MVNOs worldwide.

Our work hasn’t stopped at MVNOs, however. We have also assisted host mobile network operators (MNOs) with a full range of MVNO related topics, from the introduction through to the managed exit of MVNOs.

Given our extensive and detailed knowledge of MVNOs we have been appointed as expert witnesses to assist both MVNOs and MNOs in major litigation cases.

Recent notable MVNO projects have included:

Migrating a major, US$100M++ revenue, MVNO from a unitary pricing wholesale model to a revenue sharing model. This included economic traffic modelling, a thorough review of material accounting conventions (alongside the client’s CFO), the redrafting of the commercial annex of the MVNO agreement from 4 pages to 20 pages and supporting the client through negotiations with the host MNO.

A MVNO acquisition programme for a MNO. We assisted the MNO in building a portfolio of MVNOs matching the MNO’s business objectives, including strategy, a business plan, a detailed MVNO selection process, template offer letters, and MVNO contracts and onboarding materials.

The controlled exit of a MVNO from a host MNO. This included the settlement of an unpaid multi-million US dollar wholesale balance, without resorting to litigation or regulatory intervention.

A wholesale strategy for a MNO considering providing passive cell site (tower) sharing, national roaming, spectrum sharing and MVNO access. This included detailed network costings (cost to carry) for data and voice.

Regulatory consultation responses on behalf of MVNOs and MNOs, relating to a wide range of telecommunications matters such as MVNOs, IoT, retail price regulations, broadband satellite through to submarine cable access.
